Welcome back- A note from Ms Ruane

Cillian working on some Easter Art.

Hey 4th class,

Ms Ruane here just checking in to say hi. I hope you all had a wonderful Easter break and ate lots of chocolate! 😀

As you will have noticed from the school website we are moving  our learning to a website called seesaw.
This is a really fun and interactive way for us to learn, share our work and ideas and communicate with each other.
I will update this daily, adding new information and lesson ideas. I will add voice recordings or videos to help you too.
You can reply to me using pictures, videos, or written work so it will appeal to everyone!
You can  also use this on your computer, tablet, or phone so it may prove more accessible to you and your family.

Workload:
All our circumstances differ so much, some of your parents may be working, some of you might have limited access to the internet and some of you may be busy helping out with brothers and sisters at home, don’t worry do what you can when you can!
I’ve also mentioned before  that we all work and learn at a different pace so please don’t feel overwhelmed by the work load, do what you can.

Well done:
To date I have been so proud of the work and commitment given by each of you so keep that up. You
Are all doing great.

Daily activities:
Along with what I have put up on seesaw  id like you to continue with your daily activities Of master your maths, read at home,  spellwell etc. You will notice you are coming near the end of these so well done! Look back and complete anything missed over the year.

Time for you
Taking time every day to read a book, draw a picture, go for a walk,  watch tv and spend time with your family is so important. No teacher expects any of you to do school work from 9 to 3 everyday. Find a healthy balance. Do what works best for you and your family.

Contact me:
You can still use my email address to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
You can still send on your photos, stories, pictures, PowerPoints and I can add them to this blog.

I am missing you all and  so excited to get back into our school work. I’ve missed reading and seeing all of your hard work and look forward to getting stuck back into work.

A note from Mrs Ruane

A note from Mrs Ruane.

Myself and cillian playing in the garden!

Ms Ruane here, just popping in to say hello, and I hope you are all keeping well! Thank you so much for all of your wonderful work and pictures it really cheers up my day when I get to sit down and read or look at your work! I’m so impressed with how all of you have adapted to this new, strange way of learning! You are all proving yourselves to be mature, independent learners and you should feel very proud of yourselves for that.

The Easter holidays are here and I want you to take this time with your family to have lots of fun. Get baking, help mum and dad in the garden, play games with your siblings, do things everyday to make you happy. Maybe there is a movie you and your family have been waiting to watch, get the popcorn 🍿 out and sit down and enjoy!
Play board games, get the pack of cards out, draw a picture, or read your favourite book again.
There is so much  you and your family can do together!
I would love to hear from you over the holidays so keep your art, diary entry’s, and photographs coming and keep all your friends in the loop about how you are spending your holidays- who knows you might even give each other a few ideas.
Just because school has stopped for the holidays, it doesn’t mean I along with your peers don’t want to hear about your news, or the fun and exciting things that might be happening for you. If you want to share please send it on to me and I can put it up on the blog.
Il start with a birthday celebration that one of your classmates had yesterday.
Ríona celebrated her 10th birthday yesterday 🎂
She kindly sent a beautiful picture of her birthday cake and a little written piece about how she spent her day.
How about going to the comments and wishing Ríona a very happy birthday 🥳

I really look forward to hearing from you all over the holidays.

Happy Easter
Ms Ruane

My 10th birthday
By Ríona Flynn 4th, class 2020

Yesterday was my birthday. I turned 10. My birthday is on the 2nd of April. Now everyone in the class is 10.

I woke up at 7:18 in the morning and read for around 20 minutes. When I was reading, I heard Odhrán, so I pretended to be asleep. He just got into the bed beside me. Then Niamh came in. I pretended to be asleep again. Odhrán whispered to Niamh, “Shh, Ríona is asleep”. I giggled; suddenly Niamh leapt on top of me and started jumping on me. Then I pretended to be only waking up. When I went into the kitchen, Dad was making pancakes. They were delicious. Then Mam started to make my birthday cake (it was a chocolate fudge cake). I played Pixel Art on the computer for a few minutes.

For dinner, we had fajitas and wedges. They were yummy. After dinner, Mam started to decorate the cake. It had a chocolate gnash, sprinkles and candles. The chocolate gnash was chocolaty

Instead of having a party in our house, we did one online at 4:00. Therefore, my aunties and my Nana did a call on the House Party app. The cake tasted yummy. Later we dropped a piece of cake over my Nana’s gate. She was delighted with it.

Then, I played on my tablet for an hour. On Minecraft, I had a party with Odhrán. I also played Hill Climb Racing and Helix jump.

In the evening, I watched Great British Menu with my Dad. Then I brushed my teeth and went to bed.

Essay- Stuck by Emily Scally

The first thing that comes to your mind
STUCK

One fine summer’s day, my sister and I were playing out in the back garden with our sneaky cat Amanda. Then, something extraordinary happened.

“Your lunch is nearly ready, we are having pasta, so five more minutes outside girls!” our mother shouted. “Okay” we say. Amanda suddenly leaps into the air and follows a wild rabbit. “AMANDA! COME BACK!” we shout. Still Amanda follows the rabbit, so we decide to run after her. We forgot about the real world and we just kept following Amanda. She led us into Pat’s (our neighbour) field. We stop because we are out of breath, but still, Amanda keeps on running, so we are forced to follow her. “AMANDA, PLEASE COME BACK!” then we were led into another field and we stop finally as Amanda runs off. I look around and realise that we are lost. “Sophie, where are we?” I ask her. “I DON’T KNOW! You are the older sibling, you should know.” After a couple minutes of awkward silence, Sophie said “I’m hungry.” When Sophie is hungry, she won’t be happy or in a good temper till she gets food. The first stage of her hungriness is when she says “I’m hungry.” The second stage of her hungriness is when she starts getting hangry. (A mixture of hungriness and angriness) then the third stage is when she gets into a bad temper. So we needed to get back before Sophie practically blew up. I tried to handle the situation and I told Sophie, “don’t panic” but, when someone says “don’t panic” it obviously means that there is going to be a very bad situation. I looked around and I realised we were at the bottom of a hill. To the right of us there was a big hill in the distance with a herd of bulls. So we needed to move, but there was no chance they could come to us, so we were lucky. It seemed Sophiemoved into stage two of her hungriness, as a fight then started.

“WHY DID YOU MAKE US FOLLOW AMANDA?! WELL, MEGHAN?!” bellowed Sophie. As I had experienced one of Sophies, explosions, (we call them), I was ready to try calm her down, but the only thing that calmed her down was food. So I made a good plan to get out. “Okay Sophie, if we work together we can get out of here, okay?” I said. “Fine” said Sophie“Okay, we will check each opening of the field to see which one is Pats field. Pats field is easy to spot as there is a big white stone near the entrance. So we will stick together and find our way back.” I say sensibly and calmly, but inside me, I was freaking out. We checked a small sized field first. I peeked through the wire, where I found a herd of donkeys grazing, one looked up at me and gave me a disturbed look, as if I was interrupting mass or something, then the whole lot looked at me so I decided to back away slowly. “Not that field anyway” I say. We went round in circles checking each field, and then we were at our last one. “It’s this one!” I say. We scramble through the wire and approach level two

It seemed easy to get out of, but there was two entrances to Pats field, one on the left and one on the right, we should of went through the left entrance, because we were stuck in a pile of sheep poo, and we couldn’t turn back, and if we entered the right way, we would of gotten back quicker. The sheep poo slowed us down well. And, to our great annoyance, Amanda was already back somehow, and we saw her resting on the grass like she was waiting for us. A good while later, we returned back to our garden and finally had our lunch.

We told our parents and friends about our little adventure, and each time, we always burst out laughing, till our sides hurt.

The End
