Story- I disappeared the night before my 12th birthday by Grace

26/03/2020
Kidnapped
I disappeared the night before my twelfth birthday. I was just going for a walk then a bag suddenly flew over me. I didn’t know what to do so I just wriggled around. The person who caught me must have boxed me in the face because I went unconscious.
***
I woke in a wooden chair, how do I know it was wooden? Well, every time I moved my bum, pieces of wood stuck into me. Then a light suddenly flickered on. A face suddenly popped up in the light. “Let me go!” I shouted. “No! Why would I want to do that!?” The voice shouted. “Because I’m an innocent child” I replied. Then a man walked out of the light. He had loads of warts on his skinny face. He wore baggy trousers and a ripped top. He had flip-flops on his dirty feet. He was so skinny you could nearly see his ribs. He wore a jet black eye-patch on his right eye. His hair was so messy and long that you could say that he nearly looked like a dog. I have never seen a person so poor before. “Please!” I begged. “Let me go”. “I said no and no means no!” he shouted back. “Seriously dude! Get a life!” I mumbled.

Story- The day I was... by Grace

The day I got … kidnapped

It was pitch dark. I was sitting in an old wooden chair. I started to groan because I was starving. I had no clue where I was. I felt alone. Then a suddenly a light flickered on. “hu?” I groaned. “What’s that?”. “At last the sleeping beauty is awake” mumbled the person. “who are you?” I asked faintly. “Oh, I’m just the guy who kidnapped you” answered the man. “please let me go” I begged. “oh, so you think it’s that easy don’t you now” he asked. “No, but seriously dude get a life!” I answered. “ha, you’re such a baby!” he said. “excuse me, mister I am an eleven-year-old” I shouted back. “Don’t answer me back!” he shouted. Then the man walked out into the light. He wore worn out sandals, he had ripped jeans and the oldest looking top. His hair looked long and shaggy. His eyes looked so tired and had bags under them. He had a hideous stare. “I’m hungry!” I moaned. “well perhaps you will like a knuckle sandwich,” he asked going to punch me in the face. “NO!” I shouted.
But I was too late.

GRACE BYRNE - AGE 10

My dream by Grace

MY DREAM
My dream is to become a professional camogie player when I’m older. What I must do to achieve it is I have to keep practicing. Like strike the slither off a rebound net or off a wall. I can also practice picking up the ball with my hurl, or by jabbing it or rolling it. I also have to get the right gear.
The right camogie gear is:
• A camogie glove
• A pair of shingaurds
• Shorts
• T-shirt or a jersey
• Camogie Boots (same as football boots)
And the most important is:
• A hurl
• And a helmet

Tinn sa leaba

Le Ríona Flynn rang a ceathar 2020

Tá mé tinn sa leaba innú. Ní maith liom a bheith tinn. Tá pian i mo bholg agus tá tinneas scornach orm. Caithfidh mé fanacht sa bhaile. Thug mo Mamaí mo bhricfeasta chugam. Tháinig Mamó suas. Tá sí go deas liom. Rinne sí lón dom. Bhí sé go hálainn. Go tobann mhothaigh mé níos fearr. Dúirt mé le Granny é. Dúirt sí go bhféadfainn féachaint ar an teilifís. D’fhéach mé ar chartúin ar an teilifís. Dúirt mo Mhaimeo go gcaithfimid Niamh a fháil ón scoil. Mar sin chuamar chun Niamh a fháil.  Bhí Niamh sásta mé a fheiceáil. Nuair a chuamar ar ais abhaile d’imir muid le chéile. Ansin tháinig mamaí abhaile. Ansin tháinig Daidí, Clodagh agus Odhrán abhaile fresin. Chuaigh Mamó abhaile. Rachaidh mé ar scoil amárach.

Essay- The View from My Bedroom Window

The view from my bedroom window

By Ríona Flynn

The view from my bedroom window is quite nice. You can see the field across the road, sometimes there is horses in the field and most of the time there are sheep and lambs in the field. I can see many trees with birds in their nests. I also can see loads of hedgerows. I can see so many fences too. If you look closely, you can see three or four gates and a barn. On the left, there is another field and on the right, there is a line of evergreen trees. During the day, you can see different birds flying in and out of their nests looking for food for themselves and their chicks. Most of the time you can see more than one of my three dogs on the front lawn.

Beware of the unknown gift

Ríona Flynn 4th, class 2020

It was just a normal day, the sun was shining, and the birds were tweeting as if they were singing a song. I got up, got dressed, had breakfast and set off for school. Then the weirdest thing happened, my best friend Samira was walking beside me and then suddenly, she said “uh Liza do you that you are FLOATING!” I was like “what, how am I?” She replied, “I don’t know, did anything weird happen this morning?” I shook my head. Suddenly, I remembered looking at my little sister Emma and she looked at me as if I was a ghost. Then Samira explained, “Maybe she was looking at you because you were floating,” I agreed with her and we went on.

Then I had this thought that this was a gift for doing something. Well I remember seeing a bird falling out of a tree so I helped it back up, then the bird winked at me and I thought I was just imaging it all but I couldn’t have.

That was a long day of people staring at me. When I went up to my room, I saw a scroll that was glowing. I opened it and read it and it I read

“Dear the gifted one, you need to go and cross the great desert and find the crystal of the ice dunes.” I was confused, why should I have to go into the desert.

The next morning I told my parents and straight away, they said that I have to go and find the crystal. I flew all the way to Samira’s house and she was just coming out of the door. She said, “hold your horses, what are you doing here so early?” so I told her where I had to go. When she heard she was like “OMG, you get to go on a mission. That’s so cool” I thought she would have reacted differently. Then I set off on my journey.

I had been in the desert for days when I said “I wish there was a shower of rain” then I saw what looked like an oasis. That gave me more confidence. I flew all the way, to what looked like an oasis. When I actually got there, there was no oasis at all. It was just a mirage. I had a complete meltdown.

Then when I thought there was no hope left this happened; I was hovering over the ground when I tripped over a big rock and then I saw a symbol of a mountain with a crystal on top. When I pressed down on the symbol, a giant mountain emerged from the ground. I muttered, “That was unexpected” So I started to fly to the top of the mountain.

When I got to the top, I saw a trap door. I squeezed through the trapdoor and I saw a light shining through.  As I came closer, I realised that the light was coming from the crystal of the ice dunes. I floated towards the shimmering light and as I came closer, I saw the crystal. It was snow white with little specks of silver. I can tell why it call the crystal of the ice dunes because the crystal looks like ice and snow. When I touched it, it felt like I was holding a ball of ice. I then saw a hole that looked like it was for the crystal to go into. Then I put the crystal in the hole and a slate with words on it. I read, “Thank you for restoring the crystal to its rightful place, unfortunately we now have to take away your powers”. Suddenly, I dropped to the ground.

When I woke up, I was at the bottom of the mountain. I walked back to my neighbourhood and told Samira this “Hi Sammy, I’m back” she said excitedly “OMG, you’re back Liz, I missed you so much” I thought she was going to ask me what was it like. Then I went back to my house. My parents were delighted to have me back.

The world of Stationery

Ríona Flynn 4th, class 2020

Once there was a city, full of stationery. The people were stationery, the buildings were made of stacked books, the houses were made of copies and the ground was made of rubber. The ruler of the city was a ruler who was 30cm tall and he called himself, Roberto the ruler.

One day an evil pencil called Paley came with his army of pencils, and they attacked the city, scared the people out of their houses and kept trying to knock the palace down. However, every time Paley tried to attack, Roberto sent his army of scissors to fight them back.

Meanwhile, a little tiny pen was looking back at his home and suddenly he got a brainwave. What if he joined Paley’s army! Then trick Paley into shooting himself and his army out of a canon back where they came from? It was a big risk but he had to do it. The little pen walked up to Paley and asked him “can I join your army o’ great Paley” Paley was convinced but he did not see the pen’s fingers. Paley said, “You can be my advisor since my other one is now dead” the pen was glad his plan had worked.

An hour later, the pen’s plan went into action. Firstly, he told Paley if he shot him and his army out of a canon he would land straight into the palace. Secondly, he helped Paley find a canon big enough to fit Paley and his whole army. Thirdly, he turned the canon and BOOM, Paley and his army were shot back to where they came from. All the people cheered. The little pen had saved the day.

I just woke up on an Island- Grace

23/03/2020
I just woke up on an island!!!

I opened my eyes. I was lying on the ground. I could barely move but somehow I managed to get up. The taste of sea water was in my mouth. I shook all the sand off me. I could feel the sand moving in between my toes. Then I coughed up a lot of water. "I need food" I thought. Then I just collapsed. I could hear nothing but my breath.

I woke up and I was in a cave. There was food right beside me. Well, when I say food I mean fish. "Where am I?" I asked myself. I extended my arm to get a piece of fish. Then I heard a grunt come from the darkness. "Who’s there?" I asked. Then I heard the grunt again. "I help you" said the voice. Then a lady walked out from the shadows. She looked like a cave woman. Her hair was all over the place and her ears stuck out. She was wearing a dress me out of leopard fur. "Who you?" she asked. "Who are you?" I asked her back. "I asked you first!" she shouted. "Ok! Geez! I am Grace." I answered. "Now who are you?". "I Akari" she replied. "And I help you".
